Billabong Poly Cotton Dome Swags

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

We currently have a surplus of the Burke and Wills Billabong dome swags in the NEW poly-cotton material. The difference between the poly-cotton and the 100% cotton is breathability vs waterproofness. The 100% cotton breathes better during the heat, however during heavy rain can become saturated and leak some water. The advantage of the poly-cotton, aside from the fact that it is lighter, is that it has much better wet weather capabilities. During the heat both versions of the swag can have the top zipped down to expose the mozzie netting. As a personal preference I prefer the poly cotton. As a side note the Oztrail Mitchell is also made from a poly cotton material.

Due to our overstock of these swags we are offering them at a special price of $139.90. You can either purchase one from our retail store, or from camping-r-us.com.au click here.

Caring for your swag

Sunday, April 27th, 2008
  1. The fabric should often be cleaned. Use a soft brush and
cold water. Begin at the bottom edges and work up.
  2. No detergents, soap or cleaning fluids.
  3. Buy a cheap tarp as a ground sheet, this keeps bird
droppings, oil, dirty sand etc off the fabric.
  4. Never pack your swag away wet.
  5. If you notice mildew, get rid of it before it sets in.
  6. Continuous cleaning may necessitate reproofing. Camperland
    has proofing products
  7. After proofing, allow the swag to dry before you use it.

Condensation:

  1. Your swag could have internal condensation in certain
conditions. This is due to the canvas not coping with the volume of
    condensation created.
  2. Inside the swag, perspiration and breathing in a confined
area, warm bodies and freezing conditions can all create the problem.
  3. High humidity and heat develop internal moisture. The cold
external conditions will preclude evaporation, and the moisture is
    trapped inside.
  4. To remedy this, elevate the head and foot of the
swag, allowing improved circulation. Try to sleep under a shelter, or head
the swag into a breeze, or air the swag every day as bedding tends to
absorb moisture from the air or your body

Are you interested in going on an exciting camping trip? If you are, have you decided where you would like to go camping? Have you choose a camping site? You might want to book as some sites need at least 6 weeks notice due to popularity and so you get a site because in summer months, and school holidays and long weekends, camping is a very popular activity.

Another reason why you may want to think about making a booking for your site in advance is because many campground parks allow campers to handpick which camping site they want.To get a good camping site, you will find that the earlier you make your booking, the more campsites you have to choose from. 30 Useful camping Tips (But then you are probably aware of these)

  1. Plan your trip to set up camp in daytime, you might find an antnest under your tent.
  2. Select a site protected from the wind. Hills or trees can offer protection.
  3. Level, firm ground is best. Avoid low lying ground, or you could end up with a water front block.
  4. Pitch the tent so you sleep with your feet lower than your head. You might pass out. (more…)
