30 Useful camping Tips (But then you are probably aware of these)
- Plan your trip to set up camp in daytime, you might find an antnest under your tent.
- Select a site protected from the wind. Hills or trees can offer protection.
- Level, firm ground is best. Avoid low lying ground, or you could end up with a water front block.
- Pitch the tent so you sleep with your feet lower than your head. You might pass out.
- Do not camp under trees with large brittle branches especially gumtrees. Might be your last camp.
- We set up a silver tarp right over the tent and poled out the other side for a great rain and sun shelter.
- Dig a trench on the high side of your tent to let rainwater run off.
- In beach camping stay away from sand dunes. Find a sheltered spot out of the wind .
- Obey warning signs about crocodiles or poisonous marine life.
- Dont camp in dry creeks.
- Download a good check list.
- Remember the 1st Aid kit.
- Take your own wood or gas / fuel stove.
- Take a gas lamp, or torch for convenience.
- Dont forget the door mat. You dont want sand and dirt inside the tent.
- For the campfire, cook downwind so so you dont fill up the tent with smoke.
- Build your fire on a bed of sand away from logs and vegetation.
- Extinguish your fire at night by covering it with sand.
- Before pitching your tent, check the site for ant nests or animal burrows.
- Zipup the tent at all times to stop flies and bugs.
- Bring shoes or clothes inside, dont tempt the spiders. Check before you put them on.
- Wear gloves when gathering firewood.
- Pack up food scraps at night. Especially on Fraser Island or anywhere else dingos may be present.
- Take citronella candles for mosquitoes.
- A second tent makes a great play room for kids.
- Remember kids eat more when camping. Pack extra fruit, biscuits etc.
- Kids love water. Find a nice, safe spot, especially when crocodiles may be present.
- Keep cooking simple. Plan your meals.
- A hanging food safe is essential.
- Minimise messy washing up, and food wrappers.

Just a couple of extra things to add to the list:
Carry extra water.
A signal mirror and a whistle would be handy.
A poncho
emergency sleeping bag/ blanket.
waterproof matches
compass
insect repellent like bushmans or skoot
Hat
